Bariatric Surgical Procedures

The Surgical Procedures
Surgical treatment is the only proven method of achieving long-term weight control for the morbidly obese. Del Sol Bariatric Center offers the following weight loss procedures: Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding and Open Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery. The laparoscopic approach utilizes multiple small incisions instead of a larger midline incision. Data shows that the laparoscopic technique results in less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery for most patients. Because bariatric surgery is a medical necessity (not cosmetic), insurance companies may cover expenses.
The Criteria
• 100 pounds or more over your ideal body weight
• A BMI of 40kg/m2 or 35-39.9 with severe co-morbidities
• Failure at previous weight loss attempts
• Limitations in daily activities, including family and work functions
The Benefits
Sufficient weight loss can significantly improve health, reduce the risk of developing obesity associated medical conditions, and enhance the quality of life. Bariatric surgery has shown remarkable improvements to patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, asthma, sleep apnea, stress urinary incontinence, coronary artery disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, depression, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and degenerative joint disease. Many patients who have undergone the surgery say, “This has given me my life back.”
